Technical Problems with 1&1 Internet's Server
- Update 2nd March
Our web-hosting company had experienced some technical difficulties
for several days after upgrading their servers on 28th February.
This had temporarily rendered parts of the Longlands web site
inaccessible.
Fortunately, 1&1 resolved their technical issues earlier today, and
all of the affected features are back online.
As their server upgrade included a change from ASP.Net version 2 to
version 3.5 we are busy retesting the Longlands web application to
make sure it operates correctly in its new environment. ASP.Net 3.5
should be backwardly compatible with version 2, so in theory the
upgrade shouldn't have introduced any problems. In our experience
though, total backwards compatibility isn't always achieved (it
certainly wasn't with the upgrade of v1.1 to v2
a few years ago), so we are testing all of the site's features under
ASP.Net 3.5 to be sure.
The live retesting programme might take a few days to complete, but we don't
anticipate any further loss of service during this time.
Meanwhile, feel free to browse the site as usual. If you happen to
encounter an unexpected error message, or if the web site seems to
behave oddly, we would be very grateful if you would email our web
developer, Kevin James, at
info@kjames-software.co.uk, so that he can investigate the
problem. Just give brief details of what part of the web site you
were using at the time and of any error messages you received.
Thank you for your forbearance during this period of disruption.
Paul and Kevin
